Samaria Gorge
(Crete - Greece)

We visited the Samaria Gorge during our 100-day around-the-world trip in 1999.

We took the bus from Hania to Omalas, 1250metres above sea level.
The first 3km was the steepest, down a zigzag path.

At the start of the 16km Samaria Gorge walk.

The walk through the Samaria Gorge is one of the great walks of the world.
It is Europe's longest gorge.

It took us six and a quarter hours to walk the 16km from 1250 metres high to sea level.

The walk ends at Agia Roumeli.  From here we took a ferry to Sougia where we caught a bus back to Hania.
